Week Two

Dear LAPL Members,

Well, the season is off to a great start.  Going into week three, there is a cluster of teams at the top of the pack.  In fact the 1st through 7th place teams are separated by just a mere three games.  Wow.  How exciting.

Even more exciting, we will host our next mini-tournament and fundraiser Greased Lightning on Sunday, February 21 at the Eagle.  Sign-up will be from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. with play starting at 1.  This Tournament is fast-paced.  You have 15 seconds to shoot the ball with a 5 second warning.  It's a very popular event and named in the memory of John Cochran, who was a long term league member,  past BOG member and President.

Attention New Players:  If this is your first season the league offers you a complimentary entry to participate in your first mini-tournament.  We know there are several new players and we would like to send a special shout-out to ask you to join us.  These Sunday tournaments are a great way to improve your game, socialize with friends and get to know others in the league.

Pool Cue Raffle:  At our Greased Lightning Tournament, we will be raffling a Cue Stick (donated by Kirk Hill, ...thanks Kirk) to place additional funds into our HELP Fund.  This is a separate LAPL account that is utilized to assist League Members and sometimes those very connected to the LAPL who may be experiencing a difficult situation where a small amount of financial assistance might be provided.   All funds raised in the Cue Stick raffle via ticket sales will go into this fund.  So, please come out and Play in the Greased Lightening tournament and Help the HELP Fund and perhaps win a Cue Stick.

Attention Captains:  There has been a request to put together a Contact List of phone numbers of LAPL Captains that would be distributed all LAPL Captains.  The purpose of this list is to provide Captains ability to contact other captains should they be experiencing an issue they need to discuss in relation to an upcoming game.  i.e., running late to a game,  issues with a venue or day of play change request under certain circumstances permitted by our rules.  I would appreciate your assistance in providing me with your cell phone/phone number and email address. If you have an issue with this, you are not obligated to comply.  You can send that here toThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or to me personally at This email address is being protected from spambots. West Coast Challenge:  Los Angeles will be hosting the West Coast Challenge this season and we have decided to return to La Quinta Inn & Suites LAX.  The dates will be July 8, 9 & 10, 2016.  We are the host city and this means that we have to put on a great event.  There is a lot that goes into this.

Fundraising:  If you know of a sponsor that might be interested in sponsoring a table or placing an ad in the Program Book, please give us that name.

Tournament Assistance:  We are going to need volunteers for logistics of the day, helping run the tournaments, registration tables, helping with information dissemination, mini tournaments, etc.  If you are interested, please let us know.

Logo Design:  We are going to need to choose a logo for West Coast Challenge 73.  This logo design will be used in the program books, on the T-Shirts and other materials for which will use to promote the challenge.  If you are interested in submitting a design, we would appreciate that and please send that in to us soon.

West Coast Challenge Hall of Fame:  Each of the four cities when hosting the WCC have an opportunity to induct two players into the WCC Hall of Fame.  If you have nominations please speak to a member of the Board of Governors or email us here.

We hope you have a great week of play.

Sincerely yours,

Al Ballesteros, President
