Dear Members,

As we move into week five of regular play, we want to remind our members that nominations are open for the Board of Governors. This season we will be electing to four open seats. Should you wish to run for the Board, please write your name on the score sheet before the end of week seven. So far, we have one person running, Cliff Giles, Jr.

9-Ball Tournament: This past Sunday we had a successful 9-Ball Tournament and 22 players braved the rain and came to compete at Trunks. It was a competitive day and in the end, Jim Stramel took First Place and Jon Bourgault placed Second, followed by Ray Brewer in Third and Justin Yau in Fourth. Thank you to all that came out and a special thanks to Arthur for assisting with the raffle.

Board Updates: Prior to the 9-Ball Tournament, the Board of Governors held a meeting and I'd like to communicate a few items which we are working on. Recruitment of New League Members - We continue to discuss strategies of how to grow our league and attract new players, teams and venues. To this end, we are reaching out to our Captains and Members to please assist in these recruitment efforts. We ask that should you come in contact with anyone showing an interest in our league (during regular nights of play, league sponsored events, or in other places) that you take a moment to provide information about the league and how one gets involved. The best information to provide is our website www.LAPL8Ball.com. There is a "Join the LAPL" section located above the calendar on the first page which the interested person can fill out.

which the interested person can fill out. You can also speak with Saeromi Kim, our Secretary and Recruitment Chair or any other board member if you have ideas to share. Pool Instruction Session - We are looking into putting together a Pool Instruction Session for league members who will be attending the Last Chance Qualifier event which will be held on May 17. This Instruction Session will be especially tailored for new players or players who have not yet qualified to play in a West Coast Challenge. This session will be taught by higher skill level league members. We will provide more information in coming updates. If you are interested in attending this Pool Instruction Session, please e-mail us here. Awards Party - we are beginning to plan the Awards Party for the end of this season and we discussed the need to work with our Captains and players to engage our membership to attend. The Awards Party is for all our members and we as your Board truly want to see a larger turn-out this year. We are looking for volunteers to assist in planning and putting together the Awards Party. Should you have an interest, please contact me directly and we will get you involved. I can be contacted here at this e-mail.

Thank you.

Al Ballesteros, President LAPL

Welcome again to Cue News.

Our next fundraiser and 9-Ball Tournament will be held this Sunday, February 22 at 12 noon at Trunks.  Jon our fundraising Chair has a new format planned for this tournament which will move the matches along while allowing players the opportunity to play more pool games.  We hope you can join us and we encourage you to come out and participate in the tournaments as these are a great way to improve your game while at the same time socialize with friends and support the league.

Right before the 9-Ball Tournament, we will be having a meeting of the Board of Governors.  Our meeting will begin at 11:00 a.m. and we will meet on the patio of Trunks.  We may walk down the street to one of the coffee shops or eating places depending on conditions.  The meeting of the Board of Governors is open to all league members.  We encourage any member that has ideas or that wishes to help our league in any capacity to come to the meeting.

Also, nominations for the Board are now open.  If you are interested in running for one of four open seats this season, please write your name on the score sheet and include in the comments when submitting the scores by the end of the seventh week of play.

We hosted a very fun and successful 10-Ball tournament this past Sunday at Trunks Bar in West Hollywood.

It was a very competitive double-elimination tournament and in the end, Marty Brennan took first place, followed by Justin Yau in Second and Al Ballesteros in Third and Vic Karanfilian in Fourth.

Congratulations to the winners and all those who came out.
