JanellMcKaneBeisel3Janell McKane: Long-time LAPL member Janell McKane is moving away from Los Angeles and this was her last season. Janell has been a member of the league for nearly 30 years. She has served as a captain, board member, statistician and multi-term President of the League. In fact, Janell was the first woman to be elected President of the LAPL. Janell is universally loved and she will be greatly missed. Not only has she been of tremendous service to the league, Janell has been a dear friend to many league members over the years and during very difficult times.

In recognition of her many contributions, the LAPL Board of Governors voted to give Janell the Marvin Beisel Award for unusual dedication to the league. The award was presented to Janell on Monday, April 6 at Trunks during a farewell party organized by the Board and several league members. We want to thank everyone who came out and those that helped organize the parts of the farewell party. It was a wonderful farewell event and Janell was indeed very grateful. Janell asked that the following message be shared with the league:

LA Pool League Board of Governors and Members,

I want to thank you all for the wonderful farewell party last night at Trunks. I was completely surprised and touched by all of you that dropped by. Your well wishes, gifts, cards, poster, cake and video tribute made it a special night.

Through the LA Pool League, I have made life-long friendships and have great memories that I will always treasure. My 25 plus years being a part of the league was such a rewarding experience. To become part of the select group to receive the Marvin Beisel award was an unexpected honor and one that truly humbles me.

My sincerest thanks to all of you for the many great years of fun and challenging competition.

Best regards,
Janell

Dear Members,

Elections & Board of Governors: There are currently four (4) open slots on our Board of Governors. Elections were open for five weeks, consistent with our bylaws and we received the following nominations:

Cliff Giles, Jr.
Matt Reilly
Saeromi Kim
Timmie Winebrenner

Because there are equal numbers of nominees to open slots, your Board of Governors discussed and made a decision that it would forego the balloting process and accept the slate as proposed. The aforementioned persons will begin their service next Season which will take effect after the WCC tournament. Congratulations to Cliff, Matt, Saeromi and Timmie.

This past Sunday we had a nice gathering for our Lucky Draw Tournament at Eagle LA. There were13 in attendance but the competition was very stiff. The top four finishers were:

1st. Jon Bourgault
2nd. Jeffrey Hersh
3rd. Rick Ayres
4th. Cliff Giles

Thanks to all that came out.

Pool Instruction Session: (This is a Free Session to LAPL Members). The LAPL Pool Instruction Session is scheduled on May 17, 2015 beginning at 10:30 a.m. just before the Last Chance Qualifier. This Instruction Session will be especially tailored for new players or players who have not yet qualified to play in a West Coast Challenge. Rick Ayres has agreed to assist as one of the instructors and we want to thank him for setting this time aside for our league's players. The session's goals will be to work with small groups on both tables to provide instruction on basic techniques as well as playing strategy. We ask our Captains to alert their players that might be interested and those that are planning to participate in the Last Chance Qualifier. We would like to especially reach out to our new players in the LAPL. If you are interested in participating, please make a note of the date. You can also email your information to us.

Thank you,

Al Ballesteros, President
